Steal My Strategy: How I Market My Business
The tried-and-true tips I use to get my business noticed
You got your nice lil’ site up and running, your offerings all figured out, and now you’re left staring at your computer screen clenching your teeth and thinking “okay… now how do I actually get people to notice my business?”
Luckily, you’re not alone! Welcome to the wonderful, terrifying world of owning a business ;)
I’ve Googled the same things. I’ve tried all the “hacks.” I’ve stared at analytics like I knew what the hell they meant.
Marketing can feel messy, mysterious… and even a little rude sometimes? Like, I’m trying to run a business—why does it also feel like I need an MA, psychology degree, and 16+ hours a day to show up everyone all at once?
The good news: you don’t! Let’s just take a deep breath and walk through what actually matters.
First, marketing isn’t shouting—it’s connecting
The best way I’ve learned to think about marketing is to simply help people find that thing they were already searching for.
It’s not manipulation. It’s not about being a loud sleazy salesperson. It’s not pretending to be something you’re not.
It’s clarity. It’s consistency. It’s connection.
According to Edelman’s Trust Barometer, 81% of consumers say they need to trust a brand before they buy from it.
And trust comes from showing up as a real person who understands real people.
The minute I stopped trying to sound like a polished corporation and let myself be, well, myself… things started to click.
And your marketing can feel like that too!

Tip #1: know who you’re talking to
I don’t mean just the whole basic “women, ages 25–40.” That’s great and all, but demographics alone won’t tell you squat about what makes them buy.
Instead, think like this:
What stresses them out?
What keeps them stuck?
What are they Googling at 11PM?
What win would make their whole week easier?
When you understand someone deeply like that, suddenly your content writes itself because you’re not guessing anymore—you’re answering!
When I first started Shamblen Studios, I thought I was talking to “people who want pretty photos.”
Nope.
I was talking to overwhelmed small business owners who needed marketing to be easier, faster, and less stressful—and needed visuals that didn’t look cheesy or generic.
Your job isn’t to marketing to everyone (that’s a great way to market to no one, actually).
Your job is to become a mind-reader for the right someone.
Tip #2: show up where your people hang out
Everyone loves to say “you need to be everywhere! get word out there! plaster your business anywhere!”
But that’s like telling someone they should eat at every restaurant in New York City before choosing a favorite—completely unrealistic (and exhausting.)
Instead… pick one or two platforms your audience actually uses. If you’re not sure, this could take to trial and error to figure it out! But here’s a general guide I use:
If your people love inspiration, DIY ideas, or visual learning: Pinterest if your new best friend.
If they want behind-the-scenes moments and personality: Instagram’s your stage!
If they want answers, not aesthetics: Google + blogging will carry your business further than you think!
Side note here: according to Master Blogging, 83% of internet users read blog posts. So, blogs are definitely still having their moment!
Also, choose the places where showing up feels sustainable for you, not soul-crushing. Consistency is wayyy more important than being everywhere all at once!
Tip #3: make your content do double—or even triple—duty
Here’s what I wish I would’ve figured out early on:
You don’t ened to reinvent the wheel everyday.
Just create your content once, and repurpose it many time.
For example:
turn a blog post into 5 Pinterest pins
turn those pins into Instagram stories
turn that one story into a Reel
turn that Reel script into an email
turn that email into a mini tip on your website
Suddenly, that one idea becomes a week of marketing.
If you’re food-oriented like me, think of your content like leftovers: still delicious, still useful, and usually better the next day.
Tip #4: don’t hide your magic
You know that thing you’re really good at? Ya know, that thing that made you want to open up your business in the first place?
That’s what people want from you! So, give it to ‘em.
Many of us (me included) hide it because we assume it’s too basic or obvious… but what seems simple to use can be mind-blowing to someone else.
Show your process.
Share your expertise.
Teach the thing you could explain in your sleep.
That’s the content people remember :)
Tip #5: now give ‘em a reason to stick around
Imagine someone discovering your business today: they like what they see, they’re curious, they want more then… poof. They scroll away and never find you again. Because, algorithms.
This is why your email list matters.
Your email list if the one place you can talk directly to your people without fighting for visibility. No algorithm, no competition—just you and your audience.
And before you can even say “I don’t know what to email people,” lemme tell you!

Tip #6: make it easy to buy from you
You can have the best business in the world, but if someone has to click 9 buttons, dig through your website, decode your offer, and sacrifice a goat under the full moon to figure out how to buy from you…
…then they won’t.
Keep your pathway to purchase simple:
clear navigaiton
clear packaging
clear pricing
clear benefits
clear next steps
If you ever wonder whether you’re being clear enough, have someone test it out for you. If you can’t have someone test it out for your, then and ask yourself: would someone understand this if they found my brand for the first time on a 2-hour night sleep?
If the answer is yes, then you’re good! ;)
Tip #7: stay human, stay helpful, stay consistent
Marketing isn’t a sprint, so don’t look at it that way. It’s a slow, steady, relationship-building marathon. And like all relationships, it’s build through
showing up
caring about your people
sharing helpful things
and not disappearing ;)
There’s no one-size-fits-all perfect strategy to grow your business. You just need presence, clarity, and connection. And it’s good to remind yourself that not everyone is looking for the fanciest brand—they’re looking for someone who gets them.
And that someone can absolutely be you!
